Kalopanayiotis - The Vineyard Trail

Nestled in the heart of the Troodos Mountains, Kalopanayiotis village is known for its picturesque scenery and rich history. One of the best ways to experience the natural beauty and cultural heritage of this charming village is by hiking the Vineyard Trail. The Vineyard Trail is a medium grade circular route, covering a distance of 6.8km and taking approximately 3 and a half hours to complete. It is suitable for hikers in good physical condition who are ready for a challenge. The trail begins by following a forest road that ascends the northern slope of the Troullinos ravine, a 2.2km stretch that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. This area was once covered entirely with orchards that belonged to the old settlement of Troullinos, but today only a few almond trees, fruit trees and the ruins of old buildings remain. The second section of the trail is the most interesting, but also the most tiring. A 900m stretch through dense pine forest towards the Anelikos saddle awaits hikers. Although it requires some effort, the stunning scenery along the way makes the climb worth it. When you reach the Anelikos saddle, you will find a junction where you turn left to complete the route. From this point on, you will be walking among the restored vineyards of Kalopanayiotis. These vineyards, which were once neglected and abandoned, have been carefully restored to their former glory by local farmers, ensuring that the region's rich agricultural heritage is preserved. As you wander through the vineyards, you will pass by the new and impressive winery on the mountainside above the village. The winery is a popular spot for wine tastings and tours, giving visitors a chance to sample some of the best wines produced in the region. The winery's stunning location and modern design make it a must-see destination for anyone visiting the area. After visiting the winery, the trail continues towards the Kokkala ravine, where you can enjoy more stunning views of the surrounding mountains. To return to Kalopanayiotis, simply follow the sign for route 2A. The Vineyard Trail is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty and rich history of Kalopanayiotis village. While the trail can be challenging at times, the stunning scenery and unique cultural experiences make it well worth the effort. Whether you're an experienced hiker or simply looking for a relaxing day out in nature, the Vineyard Trail is the perfect choice. So pack your bags, lace up your boots and get ready to explore one of the most beautiful regions in Cyprus!
